Global primary aluminum market has oversupply of 908,000 tons in Jan-May 2020

According to a report released by the World Bureau of Metal Statistics (WBMS), the global primary aluminum market faced an oversupply of 908,000 million tons from January to May of this year, compared to an oversupply of 780,000 tons in 2019.

In the first five months of this year, the global primary aluminum demand was 26.33 million tons, increasing by 1.1% or 285,000 tons from the same period in 2019.

The figure of demand was calculated based on apparent benchmarks, and the impact of the national blockade to curb the novel coronavirus epidemic might not fully show on the statistics.

During the same period, the global primary aluminum production had a year-on-year increase of 4.0%.
